This Month’s Highlights

Design Highlights

The month of May kicks off the start of the summer season and with it a cascade of events showcasing the best in the design world.

This makes it one of my most favourite times of the year, so I thought I’d share a few of my highlights.

London Craft Week

Celebrating its 10th year, London Craft Week returned to champion the very best of British and international creativity.

What I love about this event is that it supports unknown makers alongside celebrated masters from design, fashion, art, food, culture and more.

When I think of LCW I always think of Cox London who this year partnered with Jay Blades MBE. Their premise was about honouring and learning from past and present crafts and what this means for the next generation of designers.

A new kid on the block, but certainly not in the vintage interiors world, Merchant & Found launched a 6000 sq ft Vintage Supermarket at the Vinyl Factory in Soho. Furnishings and hand crafted objects filled the vast space and all items had a design connection to what we see in a supermarket.

Clerkenwell Design Week

This is another must have for interiors, architects, makers, and all round creatives. Celebrating its 15th year, (there seems to be a theme here) over three days the EC1 neighbourhood hosts over 600 curated events.

For me, what makes this event stand out is the incredible modern installations that can be found in the most unexpected places. It’s a real celebration of design, creativity, and community.

To top it all, the flagship event space was yet again the wonderful Grade-II-listed, Old Sessions House.

Chelsea

Moving now to South West London. If you head to Chelsea during the month of May, it literally is a bloom of creativity. With events from RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Chelsea in Bloom and Chelsea Barracks Spring Fair, summer starts here - rain or sunshine!

RHS Chelsea Flower Show showcases the best of garden and floral design and over the years to celebrate the show nearby shops, boutiques, hotels and restaurants decorate their buildings with the most wonderful and creative displays.

For the second year running, in celebration of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the Chelsea Barracks gardens become a hub for artisan market shopping, talks and seminars.  Full of independent makers and brands from the world of design and horticulture this is becoming a must attend event.

Wallpaper

A new launch in the decorating space was from the well-know and well-loved Farrow & Ball. The ‘Purnon Papers’ designed by Farrow & Ball have been inspired by the incredible Chateau de Purnon restoration work that they have been involved in.

The official launch of the wallpapers are in June, but many of the Farrow & Ball shops have them on display already.

The Parisian Agency

If the Chateau de Purnon has given you a taste of French real estate, you can sit back and enjoy it from the comfort of your home. The new series of The Parisian Agency is now streaming on Netflix and is full of jaw-dropping properties.
