Colour trends for 2022

September is the new January

September is here and that ‘back to school’ feeling of a fresh start makes makes we want to check out what’s new in design. As the trend reports are released the more I feel that September is the real New Year.

I’m not a believer in trends, but whether we like it or not we do become influenced by them. Colour is one thing which we can change quite easily in our homes and yet again colour curators are predicting which colours will be big for 2022.

After reading the trend reports and listening to my clients there is still a strong pull towards connecting to nature and embracing and bringing joy into our homes.

Blue

The most popular colour that my clients tend to love is blue. I’m not surprised with this as the colour blue represents both the sky and the sea and is associated with open spaces, freedom and also stability.

We’ve seen lots of moody blues over the last few years and these hues are not going away, but more of my clients are leaning towards brighter and energetic shades which spark happiness.

Green

Greens are often a divisive colour, but over the last year they have become more popular and I believe we will see a lot more of them in 2022.

We have all really appreciated how restorative and precious nature is lately and green is often used to symbolise renewal.

Pink

Pink has been ‘colour of the year’ for quite a few years with different paint brands. I adore pink and I often treat it as a neutral in design schemes.

Now you may think that pink would be a divisive colour, but actually I find that clients are very open to this colour. The right shade is key though, and will provide you with the perfect backdrop to pair with other colours and patterns.

Pink is associated with love and kindness so no wonder it’s always been a hit in the colour charts.

The Power of Three

So, you may well be thinking that nothing feels that ‘new’ here. The key, however, is using these three colours (blues, greens and pinks) together. This powerful trio is what is going to be seen in 2022. The power of stability, renewal and kindness. Now, there’s a trend I can get behind.
